You are so dense -- but that's the nature of the beast.
Letterman explained that the joke was intended to refer to the older daughter, whom I expect his writers expected to be at the game and instead it was the 14 yr old. But yo don't blame Letterman for a script written by someone else.
Then he apologized immensely. Gov. Palin accepted. Case closed.
except in the eyes of those who would prefer that all liberal voices be silenced and there remains one point of view -- yours.
I personally decry the present humor -- the lines of decorum are indeed crossed or at least made somewhat fuzzy -- the humor of Letterman is somewhat pervasive, SNL being an example. Yet it is the humor accepted by the around 20 generation that seems quite humorless and lacking in creativity especially when it comes to humor (take, for example, AMERICAN PIE, which revolves around some dum-axx kid humping a pie -- where's the humor in that? From what I have heard, the rest of the movie is based on the same lackof humor -- creativity giving way to sex "jokes". I tried to watch it once, at the urging of my host, and was mainly bored by what I saw of the Movie. To me it was not funny -- just dependent on sex and a bunch of dum-axx kids).
But back to Letterman -- to demand his resignation is just as tasteless as the joke, without reasonable basis.

RSM, I do agree about the joke
I don't think he should resign over it though. That is over reacting. That joke is very much of the level of the humor that McCain is suppose to have, so if Lettermen should resign over such a joke, we need to get McCain out of office as well. Hell, I bet McCain thought hat joke to be as funny as it gets.
Back right after Clinton won way back when SNL did a really nasty skit that was truly insulting towards Chelsie Clinton. It was a very insulting and unfunny joke about her being an awkward teenage girl, all because at that time she was an awkward teenage girl who just happened to be the first daughter.
I think there are lines that popular culture should not cross, but at times they accidentally do it. We should tell them it is wrong, but not over react. In general the children of politicians should be viewed as off limits for such things.

Re: RSM, It is so horrible that she gets treated like any other politician
The mere fact that you stated Letterman's joke was not very good tells me that you understand what I said here. You do not joke about a young lady "getting knocked up" and then bringin in someone's else's name into it as well. That is pathetic. He must resign. It was slanderous towards Palin's daughter and the athlete. That is slander! He must resign now!

RSM, It is so horrible that she gets treated like any other politician
I have yet to see Palin get treated any worse than any other politician. The Clinton, both of them, have been treated far worse actually.
Letterman's joke was not a very good, but it was beyond belief clear that Palin has overreacted (Of course since she is a conservative fundamentalist, she has to play the victim every chance she gets) and is using it to get some extra media attention.
And there is no double standards. If anything it is the conservative that wish to have it both ways. All the jokes and misinformation about Democrats is encouraged, but you say one thing unflattering abotu Palin and the line has been crossed. As I said, she is being treated no differently than any other politician out there. if she wants to play the game with the big leaguers, then she needs to learn to toughen up and be able to handle a rough, not always friendly game.
You really think we would be better of with Palin running things? That shows a great deal of denial and inability to accept reality. We saw in her interviews and such during this last election that she is not a good candidate and is way too prone to play the victim when she makes a fool of herself. Basically she says it is everyone else's fault that she came off looking silly and not too bright with what
she said. That is a sign of a piss poor leader if you ask me.

Re: Sorry...but
So I guess Don Imus's joke was just a bad joke? Double standard for liberals. Typical.

Sorry...but
I have to disagree with you about Governor Palin. Yep, she has been in the limelight and dumped on by many since appearing as MaCain's running mate, but don't you think it is clear the woman isn't exactly Quick-Draw MaCraw, when it comes to politics on the world stage? Surely, she knew - or suspected - MaCain and his people chosing her so as to try and capture the Hillary Clinton supporters - when Clinton bagged her bid? No? As for Letterman - it was a joke, a bad joke, but nevertheless a joke. He apologized (twice) she accepted the apology. End of story, don't you think? You too have a great weekend.
