Xeno-x - I think it is safe to say that if a candidate professed non

non belief, neither party would have risked backing him or her.

We can look at Mitt Romney as an example. He had the audacity to say that if he had won the candidacy, he was confident that his Mormon religion would not be held against him . . . yeah right, sure thing Mitt.

Mr Dome, I apologize for making this comment. I misread the line where you stated not one non believer was a candidate in the last US federal election.  I was thinking it said not one believer and I was pointing out that Huckabee ran and he was a former baptist pastor.  MY MISTAKE!  Just delete my comment and chalk it up as ignorance. You know how us believers are.  Forgive me for the confusion!

One of the candidates having a religious background could as easily be used as an argument to suggest that he wouldn't have gotten as far as he did if his religion were other than Christian.

GomeDome, Mike Huckabee, former Governor of Arkansas and former Baptist Church Pastor, was a Republican candidate until he finally conceded to John McCain.  He will run again I would guess.
