I hope you will continue to blossom and not let your brother
bring you down any more.  Nurturing you is more important than defending him.  Have you ever read the Virtues of Selfishness by Ayn Rand...?

Wow, that's tough.  You said he is autistic, does he understand the implications of what he does?  I've never heard of the affliction that he has-Speringer's Syndrome, was it?  Does that have to do with his poor disposition?  My brother, though not autistic, seemed to be on a bad path (punk friends, stealing, etc).  He is twenty, and he just recently started to turn his life around a little.  My uncle found him a tree-work job that he loves, and that started it.  He had less time to hang out with his punks, so he started drinking less, stopped stealing things.  He got a girlfriend, so she keeps his attention more now.  I hope your brother starts to turn around like this, hopefully he'll find something that gets him excited about life again.

I felt bad not saying anything. I won't pretend that I know what you're going through, but I do feel for you. You did your best for your brother, that's all you could ever have done. It is sad that this is the road he's chosen, but you need to just concentrate on yourself and your Mum now. You guys are going to need each other.
