Go to Religion in the Modern World

Troosha - "vindictive" is probably more accurate but in any event there is
a certain degree of self serving molevolence involved.
The part that bothers me, aside from some chucklehead thinking they know enough about me to predict my eternal fate, is how these people so easily dismiss the eternal suffering of others. There seems to be an erie detachment from what they are saying and what they are in effect describing.
If we don't get it right and choose their religious beliefs in this lifetime, we will be tortured for all of eternity. The fact that a great portion of humanity, historically the majority of our species, has never been exposed to their religious beliefs doesn't seem to create an irreconcilable inconsistency. This is easily bridged by appealing to inherent human prejudices and as you allude to; slamming the notions of a diverse society and accepting others becomes part and parcel.
Then in the same breath, after condemning the vasy majority of humanity to hell in this manner, they have the utter gaul to describe their version of God as all loving and a God of infinite mercy.

I completely agree with...
dear Troosha's well-articulated argument, and dear Bhaskar's wise approach in promoting mutual understanding, respect, and communication. It is as much a responsibility of the site administrators as it is of each individual writer.

Yes, I agree –slanderous – wrong choice of words. But at the very least I’d say vindictive towards others who do not share their exact view. Further, if these people believe and want us to understand that living a God-filled life is a righteous and virtuous path than I find it inane that these very same people slam the notion of diversity and in some cases even express contempt for anyone who disagrees with their views or if they are of another faith/slant.

Disagreements in intellectual discussions is most constructive to both parties, if only each is willing to listen to the other, patiently, and with sympathy. This is called double-arrowed conciousness which I follow.

Troosha - where slander may not be the right word, it is most definitely
insulting to anyone of reasonable intelligence.
I often wonder which dynamics are in place that has so many poorly educated and poorly informed people, bellowing condemnation towards others from a position of nearly complete hypocrisy and ignorance. It is as you say "tiresome", I know myself I can only read so much mindless drivel from these types of people. When they are thick in numbers on any site or public forum, that site runs the risk of them causing others to leave. Typically they are the worst cybor citizens.
I can only speculate at how long a site which was populated with nothing but them would remain viable.

strat - "amens" are allowed here, you can even throw in a few "hallelujahs" if you feel the need.

TAPS. - yes, more or less I use the same criteria
Some blog titles act as a warning sign, (sometimes intentionally). There is a definite art to writing blog titles . . . I'm still working on the finer points.

Xeno-x - that ultimately is the point and one that surprisingly, escapes far too many people.

Albeit each blogger has the right to post whatever they want, it does get somewhat tiresome to read a myriad of headlines (or posts if I choose to go that far) that proclaim there is only one God, one path to “salvation”, and that all others are destined for some place called hell. The very narrow-mindedness of these types of posts (at least in my mind), border on being slanderous against anyone who may not share this particular belief. So it does beg the question…what’s worse – the passionate comments or the pompous post?

Good post title! Since I pretty much know how you feel about things in this blog category, I pick and choose which posts to read here by the titles of the posts. If the title grabs my attention, I stop in and read. If I don't like the title, I go elsewhere. LOL. I'll bet you probably kind of play by the same rules.
