I'm not really positive that "they" don't get the point. Sometimes, I think it's that "they" just plain don't like the point so the choice is made to nit-pick at the fringes of the point and go off in a different direction of one's own making. I must admit that I do this at times at some posts of bloggers. Can't remember right now if I've done it to you. I'm sure that if I have, it drove you up the wall.

Bhaskar.ing -their beliefs effectively debilitates their thinking processes
Many of the people I am referring to in this post have sub standard educations as well. Evidenced by their inability to grasp primary school level science as they attempt to refute and discredit science. But of course if you ask them, they all have college degrees from the finest schools.
It is frustrating and ultimately pointless to continue dialogue with some people.

Re: thing is the godbots don't know as much of the Bible as they think they do
Xeno-x - that is very true. We've seen people here spewing bible quotations and promoting their interpretations who have a narrow focus on little snippets that suit their agendas. Many have no idea of the history of the book.

Such people can be too frustrating as I have realized. To one I asked for clarification, and the person went on and on, on everything else but the question despite my repeated askings, until I had to finally bow out. Thickheads are worse than pachyderms, and I love calling them indignant rhinos

thing is the godbots don't know as much of the Bible as they think they do
you can see that by their quotes
and then you use the Bible to make a point, and they ask you why you use something that you don't believe in.
the point is you use their own book to make your point -- demonstrating that it does indeed support your contention.
they're the ones who depend on it -- why not show them that what they depend on can be used to demonstrate a point of view different from theirs?
I hope I am clear here.
