In my situation and yours, I wonder if the changes that happened were actually so drastic or if they were actually like that all along and we ignored it.

I have a friendship that died this way, too.
When in the past, I saw her on a daily basis, we got along fine. ., and I thought she was cool.  But, after a few years past and we re-connected, I took a good look at what she had become.  She wasn't an attractive person anymore--instead she had become kind of mean and cynical about life.  Therefore, I can totally relate to your story.

This wasn't the first time it's happened and I fear it won't be the last. It's a strange situation. I've wondered how some couples get divorced after years of marriage. Maybe something like this is one of the reasons.

Indeed it is, especially when the instance is compared to meeting old friends and we can pick up where we left off as if no time passed at all.

That has happened to me recently, since I am living again in the town I grew up in. Sad when we see old friends and have nothing in common.

No matter what, that fact will never change. Thanks for reading.

Wow. How many times has that hapenened to me in the last few years...
I can't put my finger on it either. People who I thought I would have died for ten, twenty years ago I have nothing for now. No one's fault, just a...damn...just a set of different roads taken, I guess.

Great stuff, as always, Talion.

TAPS.
I couldn't help but wonder what would've happened had we been in contact more throughout the years. Could the rift been avoided or would it have been truly gut-wrenching? We'll never know for sure now.

I must admit, I've been around a lot more than my lack of new posts suggest. I've popped in every few days or so and read, but only rarely making comments.

I'm back for a while, at least until I tire of the Blogit daily grind again. Alas, my writing isn't going at all. On the other hand, Queen V is writing a novel, a concept worth many posts in and of itself.

Actually, it was rather easy to admit, which made it all the more disturbing.

Everything is a-okay. I disappear from time to time to recharge my batteries, so to speak. Sooner or later I'll learn to post a note saying so to avoid any undue causes for concern.

I have missed reading you. Your style is so refreshing

Very interesting, well written post.
It's amazing to me how old friends grow apart without daily contact, in spite of the fact that at one time forever-friendship was pledged either with words or simply heartfelt intentions.

I've lost touch with many "old" friends, time passes so quickly
and people change. We have missed you !

Beautifully expressed, Talion!
The paragraph about unbridgable differences and the impenetrable invisible wall was sheer poetry. I have missed you.  I hope all your writing is going so well.

That must have been a very sad discovery for both of you. It's hard admitting that you no longer like old friends.

I have been concerned about you. I visited several times. Hope all is well and I thought from this post it is you just took a break. Glad to have you back.
