Ash is quite correct. Yet, people who worship holy books deprive themselves of the tips on living that were made subsequent to the publication/compilation of these books!

The Hindu "Bhagavad Gita" is full of practical wisdom...English translations are widely available.

quite a bit of rewriting and interpretation goes into the composition
of those tomes.
I came across an interesting website some time back that since has disappeared. It documented the inaccuracies, etc of the King James -- stating that much was taken from the Latin Vulgate rather than direct translation of the Hebrew & Greek, showing the various revisions over several years.
And still we can find sites documenting errors in that document.
What many consider the infallible word of god (the King James) is demonstrated to be a faulty construct of biased human minds.
And this is what so many quote and base their belief on.

re: the wisdom.
I like the phrasing in the Jewish Talmud reciting the Golden Rule, "Whatsoever you would that men do to you, also do to them.". It goes on to say, "This learn. The rest is but commentary."
So, I think, it is with much "holy" writing. There are a few gems of wisdom embedded in flotsam and jetsam of quasi-history and such. The gems stand out boldly from the body of the rest. They are easily recognizable. These are what we should learn about by living.

GomeDome,
I don't know about "the word of God", but I do know & have experienced that the scriptures contain wisdom, and that's really what matters.
