That was pretty unscrupulous of them - I feel sorry for the people who had been through the experience too, it was their story after all.  The only small comfort I suppose is that your name wasn't attached - how mean of them.

I sometimes how much good writing is stolen off the internet.
One reason I love blogit is it isn't quite so easy although I suppose people do hack into here.

I have had a similar experience with a local paper. I was so very upset.
They had taken what I had written, reworded it to suite their view point, slapped their name on it. It is thievery.

What a sad story of greedy human nature of today.  No one wants to pay or give respect for work done, they just want to use one and steal quality work.   I don't think they are really fooling anyone.

Well, there's your story...print media getting like a used car lot.
I would never go to the press to convey information, only sensation. Unless you are rich or powerful enough to hurt 'em, they will screw it up to titillate readership, not tell the facts.

Some editor at the rag you mention had already put his spin on things
in earlier versions of the story -- he wasn't about to let an upstart freelancer insert a contrary truth.  Now we know one reason so many newspapers are failing.  It's not just competition from the web.

Very interesting...and maddening, I'm sure!
Media is too often a joke when it comes to delivering real news. But then again, sensationalism sells...
