Ditto to metal's forceful comments...
gome, you bring up a very valid & pertinent point that should make all of us think with our hearts & brains as we try to influence our national healthcare policy, backward as it is...and also extend that thought process to education while we are at it, lest it won't be too long before our kids as adults will be saying how come all those Indian kids are so educated, aren't they supposed to be poor :)!

I've always said, even here on blogit...
...that "Socialism" is the scare-word of choice for Conservatives and Christians, whenever they encounter an idea they don't like. But, "Communism" and "Liberal" get plenty of work, also, in scaring people away from any meaningful discussion of important social issues.
I, for one, don't care if a solution to social ills has characteristics of Communism, Socialism, or Liberalism...so long as it works. I believe in putting solutions above labels. Unfortunately, a huge segment of the American population is obsessed with labels, and use them to their advantage, for which I am deeply ashamed, and apologize to my wonderful Canadian  neighbors for the worst among us Americans, who bray louder than the rest of us.
