Glad to have you on board. The more people we have and the more different sports and viewpoints are covered, the less likely this category will start to wither before it reaches its full potential. So far we have a few people posting every day. That is a very good sign. I look forward to your future posts.

beachbelle,
I like all three possibilities you mentioned. I hope someone will pick up the ball and run with it. Debate ensues whenever a sports fan feels his favorite sport is being denigrated. All someone has to do is write about how rugby is superior to American football and we're off to the races. By the way, I keep saying "American football" because there is a Canadian version and because to most of the world football means soccer.

Notapoet. I haven't the knowledge either
I don't like to take on such assignments unless I have the time and resources to be thorough in my research otherwise I would let down my readers. But there must be someone here who can or maybe it's a good thing to work on as a collaboration OR I've just had a thought - a sporting debate!

beachbelle,
Excellent idea. Why don't you go for it? It needs to be done by someone much more familiar with rugby than I. We'd love to have you in the Sports category. You could even write about the pretty muscles and the good-looking athletes and I wouldn't groan too much.
One of the things that bothers me about two of our favorite American sports, football and basketball, is that they are increasingly played by freaks of nature instead of normal people. I don't think there are a dozen guys, outside of kicking specialists, under 200 lbs. in the NFL. It won't be long before the 300 lb. guys take up over half of the roster spots. They aren't as heavy in the NBA, but you have to wonder about a sport where anyone under 6' 6" is called a small player. I'm all for sports that normal sized people have a shot at.

Thank you Notapoet
Now here's a thought for a sports post by someone. Someone more knowledgeable than I could draw the comparisons and key differences between American football and rugby.
One purely aesthetic point I will offer is that rugby guys are not all padded up so spectators can see their muscles.

I got here by accident notapoet...it simply happened that the world cup was played in my backyard and I had a punt with our English colleagues who were the deserving new champions...but we'll take the cup back in 2007

beachbelle and Lazarus
I'll happily interrupt my own blog to also congratulate beachbelle. Feel free to interrupt me any time, Lazarus. Its nice to have you in the Sports category. I don't know much about rugby other than that it is very physical and even excellent American football players are often not able to excel in the sport. I remember when Pete Dawkins, the great Army All American, got mashed up pretty bad playing rugby. Can't remember if it was his arm or his leg that was broken. I do remember him saying it wasn't as easy as it looks.
Keep it up beachbelle! I try not to play favorites, but between you and Ariala fighting it out for the top, I can say that neither of you will ever be losers. Nor us that get to enjoy the competition. Please feel free to join us in Sports any time the urge strikes. You'll be welcomed with open arms.
I'm a happy camper whenever I can get back-to-back comments from two of my favorite bloggers.
