Fun read.   I am a part of a non-superstitious family, so always thought of these things as humorous.  But, so many people are very serious about it.

I have had my share of these. The science is usually very hard to prove!

Nita... you will find that every superstition has many explanations...  for example,  in Catholic school they said that we knocked on wood because in olden times the cross where Christ was crucified was split into thousands of little slivers and these were sent to different churches around the world.  Touching this wood that had touched the body of Jesus was supposed to ward against the evil eye and perform miracles... With time the custom of knocking on wood stretched to all wood... Jewish people do not knock on wood because they consider that a Christian custom :-)  instead  they wear little eyes ( sometimes made of precious stones) to ward off against the evil eye or a special red string tied around their wrist... That red string does not only guard against evil eye but also, if the one that wears it makes a wish when its tied on, when it falls apart and comes off the wish will come true.  loll   In Cuba and some parts of Africa wearing an onix stone or "azabache" will protect you... In China it is Jade... I could go on and on  loll   Great post my friend...

God lives in the trees and from that “touch wood”.  Oh, how I enjoy these little nuggets you share with us!

Yes, Nita I did enjoy the post! It was very interesting and well researched. In Denmark people knock under the table instead of on wood to ward off evil spirits and misfortune. Here's wishing you good luck!
