I lived on Maui most of my life...
I grew up on Maui, and while I think it is the most wonderful place in the world, from your descriptions of your problems, it is not the place for you to live. It is VERY expensive (eg, regular unleaded fuel is over $2.00 a gallon). Also, I know from experience that Hawaii in general is not the place to live if you have a sinus infection. I have had a nasty one myself for the last 2 and a half years!!! It refuses to go away partly because of the humidity in Hawaii.
I currently live on Oahu, but I do miss Maui with all my heart. Maui is difficult to find a job, etc. The university of Hawaii is a good school for certain subjects, so if you do keep Hawaii as an option, make sure your daughter makes a decision as to her major first, then research it as deeply as possible.
Aloha no ka kou,
Jen
