Didn't know that about the Romans using this season to prepare for war.

Now I am wondering, is 'lencten' also the source of 'lent'?

Perhaps another interesting snippet connected here: JRR Tolkien, British author of The Lord of the Rings, set March 25th as the first day of the new Age of the world, at the culmination of the War of the Ring.

It was also my Dad's birthday.

It is the official day that the buzzards make their annual return to Hinkley, Ohio.

Hi Nita, good bits of information, interesting. We had a stormy, rainy and a cold day yesterday at Jaipur. The last 3-4 days have had its turbulences.

Our Tucson, Arizona month came in like an ice cube, heated and melted it
in a week of burning sunshine, and is now getting really cold and ice cube like again. Sigh.

In Kansas City, one never knows what March will do.  No two days are alike.  The temperatures are up and down, one day sunny, the next stormy.  Yesterday extremely windy, today still and wet from lasts night's downpoor.  March is a special month--much more than just a bridge from February to April.

march is a spring month, but it snowed today and there's a sharp wind blowing from the east. Thanks for such an informative post and thanks for visiting me.

You're right about the UK - March came in like a lamb this year but today the weather changed and it's definitely going out like a lion!
