Re:
The extreme majority of human evil is caused by humans, not by possessed humans. To attribute human evilness to external evil could easily evade the responsibilities of individual human, who one can make determination for progress and change. Buddhist non-attachment is not the detachment for everything. It is the non-attachment to attachment as well as non-attachment. In other words, when it is necessary for action, one should act, which surely include the fight against human evils or external evils. There is no abstainence from desire which can benefir oneselves and the others.

While I agree that attachments can form the basis of evil doing...there are actual evil forces out there, waiting to possess bodies and use them for evil works. So, it is not human defects but original evil forces that cause the problem. I believe that Buddha's non-attachment and desireless-ness was the perfect foil for these demons. There are other ways around these demons!
