snowview, I think one of the major draws of St paddy's day is the music...
I think of the Irish Rovers, the Chieftains (who we saw in person a few years back), other groups from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia right here in Canada...

It's certainly observed even in Norwich, amongst the Irish community. A parishioner went to Ireland on holiday a year or two ago and brought me back a keyring with an Irish blessing:
May you have food and raiment,
A soft pillow for your head.
May you be forty years in heaven
before the Devil knows you're dead!
