I think we've all been there now & then. I can remember looking for my glasses when they were on the top of my head all along...

Talion
Now I will take issue with there being anything wrong with your minds. Perhaps you two are still in that romance distraction stage and if so that is simply great. Good story.

Well you probably have heard of the saying
'great minds think alike'.

That doesn't sound like dumb to me.  It sounds like two people with a lot more important things on their minds than copies and olives.  It gets worse as you go along.  LOL

Talion_ - Try a hard reset first
With the computer off, pull the power cord out of the back of your computer and hold in the power on button for about 20 seconds. The issue of a USB port not working could be simply built up power that is not dissapating. With no power replenishing (power cord out) the contact of the start button, built up energy is dissapated. You have a probability of success with this action of about 10-15% but it is worth a try because it takes less than a minute in total.

Okay, and next thing you'll find your car keys where the olives should be.

Well if it's any comfort I wasted two hours today by turning up for an appointment that will take place tomorrow. Now if I had bothered to look in my diary.....I would not have wasted two hours today. Are you feeling less like a dummy now?
