I've heard of this...
The Amazing Race participants a season or two ago encountered this festival, some with much better grace and amusement than others!
Glad to hear more about it!

Celebrating Goodness and the difference and uniqueness of the world, I love it. And Bonfires for turning the tide from old to new, cool.

This is different from what I know. We call the festival PHAGWA. Long ago, HOLIKA would be burned. The emphasis was on Poojas and ceremonies, spraying of mostly colored liquids, singing special songs (I forgot what they're called) and dancing. Today the focus is on group competitions in the main areas of concentration of East Indians. It is more associated with Krishna and his leelas with the sakis. Some OLDIE Hindi songs, phagwa and the games in society have one consistent thread...rang or color. Interesting connection there!
