I'm having fun with a novel that I bought at Barns & Noble on an after-Christmas shopping spree--original price $25.95 bargain priced at $4.98. It is Martha Grimes'
Dakota. I was attracted to it because it is a female drifting around North Dakota with amnesia and doesn't know why she is there. The Dakota's fascinate me and so does amnesia. Only problem, it is not a read that puts me to sleep.

Interesting Talion...
...I once read that it's okay to combine styles and ideas that you get from reading others' books while you are writing your own. But sometimes I think it's just a distraction on my own writing and then after taking a break and reading some, I feel refreshed somehow so it's interesting to hear another take on this!

Interesting, I'm reading "Champlain", written by an USAmerican block. It's very well written and I admit, I am learning new things I did not know about the man, even if I am Quebecoise with a French family that arrived in Quebec in 1657!

At the moment, I'm sad to say I'm not reading anything. I've been working on my novel a little bit lately and I've found it's better if I don't read anything. If I'm reading something I really enjoy, not only will I not write as much as I would like, but because what's on my mind too often ends up in my manuscript, ideas and styles from the author creep into my work. I can't have that. However, I have an outing to a used book store planned for this weekend. Hopefully I'll find a few items that catch my eye.

...along with The Sparrow, by Mary Doria Russell.
When I used to read alot, I usually had four or five books going at once, but, blogging has become my obsession...second only to an amazing woman known to Chirp beautifully!

Ginnie, during one of our many late night phone conversations,
I told my sweet, metalrat, how much I adored the movie , Tess of the D'Urbervilles. I told him how much I wanted the book. Guess, what one of his many wonderful birthday presents was to me? That book. I am so excited. I haven't started it yet, but soon.

Conn Iggulden's GHENGHIS: LORDS OF THE BOW
the second book about the life of the Mongol conqueror. I've been looking forward to its paperback release for some time now... The stack includes Terry Pratchett,
Wyrd Sisters and
Guards! Guards! some of his early Discworld stuff I just re-read; a volume of Will and Ariel Durant's
History of Civilization; a vintage paperback of
The Fellowship of the Ring.
