Re: WELL THEN WE ARE HEADED FOR A DISASTER THAT WE CANNOT STOP

But to answer your question, "Do you see what you are saying?":

What I am saying in this article is that Al Gore got caught in such a flagrant and demonstrable error that he had to abandon a key part of his shtick. That is the topic of the article, and I note that you completely avoided it. I guess I was right, the pain , humiliation   and shock    of seeing The GORE proven wrong was too much to bear.

Compassionate conservative that I am, I offer you my e-shoulder for you to cry on.

Re: WELL THEN WE ARE HEADED FOR A DISASTER THAT WE CANNOT STOP

Ah, Xenox, you are so optimistic . . .

You are absolutely right - if it is a natural phenomenon, then we cannot stop or control it until we can control the natural forces that create and power it. Same problem that we face with flooding -  we can build all the dams, flood channels and levees we want, but we can't keep it from raining so much that our systems are overwhelmed.

Interesting you should bring up the Colorado River. Until the dams were built, it had a history of doing precisely what you describe - piddling down to nothing some years, causing catastrophic floods (such as the one that formed the Salton Sea) in others. The biggest concern with the two major reservoirs on the river is siltation; the Colorado is also one of the siltiest major rivers we have, and sediment settles into the reservoir basins, reducing storage capacity. In the 1970s, the San Gabriel flood control reservoir in the San Gabriel River canyon northeast of Los Angeles had to be drained for sediment removal; I've wondered about the logisitcs of doing this at lakes Mead and Powell on the Colorado, although I think the flushing of massive amounts of water through Glen Canyon Dam several years ago helped accomplish this.

The concern about water in the Southwest is very real, and predates the "global warming" hype - and even its predecessor, "global cooling." The basic problem is that people like living in the Southwest, whether there is a long-term reliable water supply to meet their needs or not. Remember that L. A. also gets substantial amounts of water from northern California as well; the problem exists there too, although that end of the state is finally getting substantial rain and snow.

I'd recommend two solutions to the problem. One, invest in nuclear power. Loads of power generation, without relying on unrealible rivers. Two, invest in desalinization. If it works in the oil-producing states of the Persian Gulf, it can work here.

And thumbs up   for identifying China as a problem. You are the first "global warmer" I've seen who has done so. Read more about China's flaunting of "global warming" at http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/WriterofLight9282/592382.

WELL THEN WE ARE HEADED FOR A DISASTER THAT WE CANNOT STOP
since there is nothing we can do about.

Since global warming is not man-made, but is a natural cycle, then we will have to admit that quite a few people will die right here in the U.S. from the results of the warming.

The Greenland ice sheet will continue to melt, as will the Antarctic ice.  Polar ice will continue to diminish, snow will be less in the Rockies and the Colorado River will continue to run smaller and the great reservoirs that generate electricity for Las Vegas and Los Angeles and Phoenix and provide water for these great cities will shrink and irrigation for the farms that provide about 30% or more of the food for the country will be less.

Do you see what you are saying?

That great calamity is coming and there is nothing we can do about it.  Why then, per your assertions, should we use less energy or pollute less since such efforts are costly to big energy companies already making pornographic profits?

So China and other countries can continue their astronomical charge toward fouling the atmosphere.

To mitigate pollution will do nothing to stem the disastrous calamity that is coming down on us like a runaway freight train.

That's what you're saying in spite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.  For such evidence, read my blog, Denying Global Warming -- Not Cool.

Welcome, Soul Builder 101!   I do get an a roll from time to time, but I'll also do my best to include as much of the text being discussed as I can in case the link to an article I'm discussing gets taken down.

Kinda long read but I scanned it through. The Aussies are already spending millions to find ways of stopping cows from belching and farting so much. They will get their way...Gore was only their salesman!
