Here's a guess as to why you still defend him. When two people get married, if it's going to work, a couple changes they way they think. The I, me, and mine thought process is transformed to we, us, and our. It can be difficult to come to this way of thinking, even more difficult to undo it.
Be wary of this guy to your left. His motivations may not be purely altruistic.

Maybe you have looked deeper....
inside this guy and see qualities that others don't see. Keep your guard up and proceed with caution. You can't ignore what others have to say but at the same time unless you see with your own eyes then all you have to go on is what others say. Good luck!
