Thanks for my laugh of the day. Sad but funny.

calmcantey75 - I've had a few of those types

And we are definitely not health care professionals. I still get a chuckle thinking about one attempt I made at counseling. A young devoutly religious man decided to ask me my advice on attracting women (seriously, me of all people) and this after I had clubbed him over the head a few times in comments. He mentioned that he was deeply in love with one of the young women at his church. I didn't know what to say but offered some basic advice; "make an attempt to control that which you can in personal hygiene, dress and friendliness, other than that just be yourself."

Then he asked me what he should do about the restraining order she had the police issue against him?

I've used the option 1 time
and it was because the individual was psychotic and it was too much of a burden to bear. I'm not trained in psychiatric counseling.

It would be a total waste of energy to block you.  You never come around anyway.

Nautikos - I tend to think more in terms of the entertainment value of

drivelling or insulting comments.

Still to this day I am surprised at the complete lack of an embarassment threshold of some people. Some of these people return over and over again to leave comments presenting arguments that are poorly conceived, or based entirely on misconception but when presented with an ironclad refutation based on facts, they continue anyways.

gome
I have never blocked anyone. I will of course not respond to vicious and stupid comments, but I allow them to display their impoverished minds for all the world to see...

strat - Re: I don't think I've ever had to block anyone.
I've only ever blocked the ones that got completely out of hand, I prefer instead to beat them like a rented mule as I ride them up the blog rankings. It really is the old story of religion and politics being the two subjects that inflame people's emotions the most. I've never had to block anyone as a result of content on my other blogs.

elinjo - absolutely, life is too short to waste on people like that
But then there are the realities of blogging. Whupping the insufferably righteous over the head a few times makes for entertaining reading, it also drives blog rankings upwards. The funniest part of it all is that the very people who have objected the most to this blog's content and those who have attempted to censure me have been the most responsible for increasing this blog's readership.

womeninthegap - it has been my experience that debate of any kind is almost

non existent in this category.

There will be lots of people willing to condemn your soul, a slew of circular arguments and a truckload of insults if even the most innocuous of questions are posed but very little of what could actually be called debate. However, it can be damned entertaining, especially when some of these people decide to write posts attempting to refute a solid contention. The most important things to remember are that religious discussion will inflame emotions but the people who would attempt to censure you, or react with rudeness and insults, do not pay your site user fees.

I don't think I've ever had to block anyone.
Then again, I'm writing about beer and cigarettes and old weird memories -- not the stuff epic from which a lot of controversy springs.

I have been witness to some of the lulus that have wandered through your blog and have been highly amused by your deft wielding of the whompin' mallet.

Re: I haven't been around long enough to...
I too am a relative new-comer to Blog-it and so have not had time yet to aggravate anybody . However if somebody added an abusive comment, such as the one you quoted I would definitely block that person. There is no excuse for that type of unpleasantness and life is too short to waste on people like that.

I haven't been around long enough to...
actually block anyone (yet, I'm sure, considering my viewpoints!), but I would imagine my tolerance point would be constant ranting, no willingness to exchange viewpoints. By contrast, anyone willing to engage is spirited debate would be most welcome.
