My Scottish buddy sent me a stick on for my car window.  It shows a snarling, burly, kilted, bearded Highlander carrying a cudgel.  Underneath it says "Scots - the friendly race."

Now that I am back in the land of desktop computers I may do a quiet 'he he' when I simmer down.

Now why didn't techie Ell suggest that?   Oh, I know, she was sweating and swearing on my keyboard trying to fix my machine.  Apparently I owe her over a week of her life.   Tsk!  Tsk!  I didn't download the update!!!!

it is a funny joke, isn't it sam444?  Although it is ever so slightly racist.  I have an English friend - and a few relatives - and nowadays the remarks are meant as jests.

Pat

Thank you very much Pat.  I am now back in the land of real computers - apart from the fact that it is Microsoft.  The problem was all because an update package (3 something or other) was downloaded. Techie Ell's decision.   As soon as it arrived the machine shut down.

The thing about it is that although I have all my files backed up, the computer wouldn't even start, thereby negating the whole point of backup discs.  It took a moaning Ell a whole week to find an answer online, which is when she discovered that the particular download is well known for it. (As she was moaning I was bitching loudly, and according to her, becoming weirder and weirder as the week progressed.)

The joke was from my buddy in Scotland, who was laughing his head off at my attempts to send an email via laptop.  It's good to be back, and to hear from you.
