The Point is...
NOBODY is 100% right, Xeno-x, and this particular group that "talks the talk, but doesn't walk the walk" (Amen, calia14) is the most morally reprehensible of all. As a reformed chucklehead, I can say this with some certainty (although I have always been a "do unto others" girl, at least). The very idea of running roughshod over anyone and everyone who is not born-again and doesn't follow a to-do list of dogmatic ideas, while promoting a loving and forgiving God is not sane thinking.

calia14 - Re: Well, how easy is that Gomedome?

That's ultimately the biggest failing point of that particular tenet of faith. "Believe and ye shall be saved" . . . it's like a legal loophole. It also diminishes some of the important aspects of our lives. With focus placed on believing and having faith for faith's sake, inevitably the value of the other underlying precepts and ideals are diminished. When the variables of group reinforced exclusionism and industrial duty brainwashing are added to the mix, the rest of us end up having to tolerate the type of people you describe. Insufferable bible lobotomized chuckleheads assuming a position of moral superiority, with no apparent evidence to support their elevated self view.

Yeah it is easy to simply mouth the words, it's living the ideals that is the hard part.

Re: with so many thinking they are right -- who is wrong?
Xeno-x - that's the million dollar question and should, if given some thought, raise more questions.

Well, how easy is that Gomedome?
Now you and I can go around reeking hell and discontent on all mankind, and as long as we believe in the post-Roman catholic christian version of God, we will be rewarded instead of damned!  Sounds pretty damn convenient to me.  I'm reminded of many instances when I was a server: bitter, nasty customers on Sunday afternoons.  They berate and degrade, snip and utter rude comments.  At the end, instead of a tip, their party of ten leaves ten of the same bible pamphlets.  Now I understand!  They feel that they're already guaranteed a place in paradise, so their treatment of other human beings bears no consequence!   I always found these pamphlets particularly upsetting when handed out on a Sunday. I can't go to your church, asshole, it's a mandatory work day because you all come here to eat afterward!
