Sam...
...I don't mean to contradict, but, I think your source has it backwards, because, I had their very first album called simply Grand Funk, which came in a red jacket and which I also happened to have left in a friends house who later moved away...bastard! lol
And I also remember actually taking notice when they changed their name to Grand Funk Railroad, which is when they also added keyboards to their sound.
I wish could get that damn album back...grrr..

Wow....Grand Funk and some of these other musicians have thrived musically for a long time. "Closer To Home" was definitely a great hit.
