Good luck, lionreign. You should start sending stuff out and don't worry about the rejection slips. Pick up some poetry journals (most larger bookstores have them). And start reading. Get a feel for how your work fits. Look at online journals. There are tons of them now. Then start submitting. Your friends here on blogit will be rejoicing at your first acceptance and will be encouraging you forward after any rejections.

Great advice
Although once I have started on that I have an obsessive compulsion to tweak my poems, changing things and changing things - even changing them back again - that I never actually have sent one out     I am still editing it...  but then I am not at the stage where I should be sending stuff yet.  I will remember this list for when I do though - thank you!

Great advice. Spellchecks only tell whether a word is spelled correctly, not whether it is the correct word in that sentence.
