your standard of living came about as a result of labor unions
over time and 40 hour week
and so on.
problem is the unions are somewhat self-centered and don't see the big picture as much as they should.
however, if it weren't for labor unions, big corporatoins would treat workers as virtual slaves --
and the competitiveness from overseas comes from exactly that -- corporations treating their workers as slaves and the workers don't know better than to accept it -- I think eventually they will latch onto the labor movement and ask our unions for help in some way
