WhorledPeas - you'll simply have to do better than that
You not liking the title of this blog does not make it a broad sweeping generalization. If you cannot get past the title of this blog, or any blog for that matter, I would suggest that you move on. Blogit is a big site with lots of people that share your beliefs.

GomeDome
You asked me to point out if there is an unfair broad sweeping generalization of Christians on this blog. I think the very title, "Shoot a non-believer for Jesus" is such a generalization. And it seems odd to me that no one complains about your generalization of Christians, but if you were to have a blog entitled, "Kill an infidel for Allah" there would be great outrage from the PC crowd. Your logic is starting to confuse me.

Re: I have a strong faith

WhorledPeas - you say that you have strong faith as if it is a given that all people view such a state of mind as a positive aspect. When someone says this to me, it merely raises a yellow caution flag, while a few discriminative filters kick into gear. While I determine how much faith they have, or how far gone they are down the path to a full bible lobotomy, I tend to keep them at arm's length.

Intelligent conversation? . . . really? . . . Are you sure that it is not agreement and consensus that you are after? So far you have complained about this blog's title a couple of times, apparently not seeing that it is figurative and tongue in cheek. Another of your complaints in all Christians being painted with the same brush when one amongst them makes negative headlines, is completely irrelevant to this blog. You will not find an unfair broad sweeping generalization in this blog anywhere, if you do; let me know and I will edit or delete it.

Then you ask me to keep an open mind, sorry but by reading what you have said in comments so far on this blog . . . that's funny.

I have a strong faith
Because it is strong, I am not threatened by others believing something else. And I thoroughly enjoy discussing the bible from an intellectual and historical standpoint. Rather than weakening my faith, it strengthens it.

As for Christians shooting non-believers, that is a great sin that is in the past. (And if you think churches are only for non-sinners, you are missing the point.) It seems strange to me that recently our society is calling for tolerance for Muslims - "it is only the extremists who are terrorists." Yet, all Christians are tainted by the sins of any one. One Ted Haggard, and now all Christians are considered hypocrites.

I would ask you all to do the same thing I try to do - keep an open mind.

Luz_Briar - I agree, the fear and terrorism used to sell God gets a little
stale when it is regurgitated as a threat.

Xeno-x - I think the objective take on what transpired is probably a little more accurate than what religious historians are attempting to sell. But we can only speculate. Constantine was one of two Roman Emperors attempting to consolidate power in a crumbling empire at the same time. He realized that a unifying religion was the best path to his objective so ordered the council of Nicea to convene and its attendees to produce consistent doctrine. They voted on the deity status of what was at that time, the most popular of numerous iconic figures. Immediately afterwards, the PR campaign to discredit all other contenders began and has been going on ever since.

WhorledPeas - Re: New here

First off; welcome to Blogit.

No I do not have an education in theology other than 8 years in a wacko religious primary school where I endured unsuccessful attempts to convince me that believing the man made whoppers derived from ancient mythology is the most important thing in life. I also make a point of not posting anything in this blog that is not true. Maintaining this policy inevitably leads to some research.

As for changing the name of this blog, I have never considered it. You will find in time that the name is completely appropriate as a descriptive term for the behavior of some individuals who call themselves Christians. Stick around awhile and you will be entertained by the bible lobotomized coming out of the woodwork to attack those who aren't willing to join their dead prophet fan club.

one of the weirdest things about being threatened by someone else's god (jesus in this case) is that god is supposed to be good/peaceful/nonthreatening. i don't know it sounds like terrorism to me

that's what I glean from history - that the son of god thing was decided by
men

wasn't wholley believedin at the time -- was a schism in the church of the time

but a certain belief prevailed and declared any different belief to be anathema and those who believed so to be non-persona --  just a start in the sequence of suppressing divergent points of view.

New here
I am new to this site and came across your latest post. I would like to read more when time permits as you sound fairly educated as to theology. Is this true? While I may disagree with what you say, the only thing that offends me about your site so far is the name, "Shoot a nonbeliever for Jesus". Would you consider changing it? You may think it is clever and harmless, but words do matter.
