Re: Re: Science
You seem to have missed the point.  Not all stem cells come from embryos.  Peripheral stem cells can now be reverted into totipotent cells, almost identical to embryonic stem cells, but taken from peripheral blood of adults.  The trouble is, if you believe anything with the 'potential' to become a human is in fact a human then these cells too are humans, with full potential to develop into exact clones of the donor.  Or recipient if you just change out the DNA.  Of course, none of this has anything to do with babies.  That's a good thing.  I'm opposed to abortion, except in those cases in which I admit that to force a woman to continue a pregnancy would be cruel and unusual punishment.  So I'm glad adult cells can be made into stem cells.  And I support that kind of research.  Which I know developed from research in embryonic stem cells.  Which I also support.  After all, abortion has nothing to do with stem cell research.  Especially now.

Re: Funny thing but sounds like you missed a lot on Tuesday....
Hope, love and promise?  I still have the oceanfront property in Nebraska with a beautiful view I would like to sell you; real cheap too!

...or perhaps you didn't catch any of the hope, the love and the promise.  I thought those were Christian principles too.

Re: Science

Well, all of that is nice but as usual it is pie in the sky liberalism. You even stated that:

"Still, other stem cells will continue to be used,"

The liberals always have a knack for preferring to kill babies over murderers. This will never end. Maybe I should stand outside an abortion clinic with a lighter turned on in my hand while holding a sign.

Science
I expect that Obama's talk about science was in reference to Bush's dismissal of actual science in making decisions about the environment, about health care, about education, and about such military matters as his Star Wars anti-missile laser beam.  Obama has suggested that it might make sense to see what people studying something have learned before making policy.  And one thing scientists have learned is a way to make adult peripheral stem cells in totipotent cells, much like embryonic stem cells.  So science might soon make it possible to reach all the promise of stem cell research without embryonic stem cells.  Still, other stem cells will continue to be used, even if does mean saving lives.

Who was the old man that spoke and used terms like
mellow yellow and the whites will get it right? Someone should have talked to him like he was deaf and dumb. We are stuck for the next 4 years...maybe.
