I think
you'll instinctively know if it's the right move. If the job is going to give you greater satisfaction than in Ohio, it may be worth taking the plunge? You'll presumably have more chance of discovering other possibilities in NYC once you were there?

vogue, I love Florida..my grandparents moved there for their

retirement.  My dad also moved there when he retired.  I loved it when I went there to visit.  I also have been to Orlando like 5 times!  LOL

I love to visit but not sure if I would want to move there?  Am I nuts?

Why not try Miami! It's so much warmer. At least here I can be poor in comfort. Jokes aside, ever thought about Florida?

Oh, and blackcat, to answer your question..
I was looking in the suburbs.

too bad my Ohio credits couldn't transfer over. lol

Just found one for the NJ/NY area. $20/hour
you have to get certified for the state but that wouldn't be a problem.

posted by shelly_b on January 16, 2009 at 9:00 AM | link to this | reply

that's the same rate for the surrounding area.
Actually, most of the suburbs pay even more.  I have no idea where you're looking.

Blackcat, LOL, you had me moving to the city today to be a dog walker!
dang..$150 a day per dog would be nice.  Still that's pretty decent for a dog walker.

posted by shelly_b on January 16, 2009 at 8:45 AM | link to this | reply

Blackcat, I guess the dogs are more important than the kids? LOL
Hmmm...a dogwalker.   The offer didn't come from the city..a surrounding area.

posted by shelly_b on January 16, 2009 at 8:43 AM | link to this | reply

lol... that's per WEEK per dog.

posted by -blackcat on January 16, 2009 at 8:42 AM | link to this | reply

the dog walkers in NYC make $150 per day, per dog!
I don't know where on earth you got an offer of $13/hr for daycare.

posted by -blackcat on January 16, 2009 at 8:39 AM | link to this | reply

Blackcat, wow..that was a surprise lol

I hear ya.  $13 an hour is low..but don't forget we are talking about daycare here.  They don't pay very much in the first place.  But still, with my experience I should be offered more.  I know there are places that offer more also.  I'll just keep on looking.

Thanks :)

it's not smart to move to the richest and most expensive place in the

country without any savings and with a job that barely pays over minimum wage.  The city will devour you.  If you really want to make it to NYC, you should probably start by living a few years in a smaller city like Trenton NJ, Scranton PA, or Albany NY and start saving.   Look for housing at the same time as a job so you can decide if you can afford the move.

I have to say, I know high school kids that make more than $13/hr working on winter break in the NYC area.  Whoever is offering you this amount is screwing you completely.  It costs almost $20 just to buy lunch.

there's your advice.

There are so many great places to look at.  Atlanta is hot these days (I have many cousins there who love it).  I'm sending lots of positive thoughts your way - something will come up soon.  Mal
