Jews can fly? Who knew?
Seems a bit unfair to give them such clearly preferential treatment.

gome, People are entitled to believe as they choose. It's what makes us
a democracy.

gome

Yeah, I've had some version of that story told to me on several occasions, when listened because I felt charitable towards the speaker. But usually I don't have patience for this sort of thing - it just bores the hell out of me...

Now, if one wanted to do an analysis of how these eschatological myths arise, and what makes them persist - that could be of some interest...

I'll have to read revelations again, I'm not sure that's quite the way it all goes down.  I think this is pretty much somebody's spin on what they read there anyway, and there was no reason to send it to you.  Unless you feel like they saved your soul by sending you that.  Sure you're not preparing for the rapture due to the rabid soul-condemning e-mails?  Wow, I would have thought those were sparkling examples of what a merciful God can do for your life and attitude.  I guess there's no swaying you, Gome.

Let's take a close look at this scenario. First, Jesus will appear and whisk away "...all those who have put their trust in him..." to heaven. That means Christians only. Not only are the atheists and agnostics "left behind," but also the Muslims, Wiccans, Hindus, Buddists, the followers of every other religion, and even the Jews. Then literally all hell breaks loose when the antichrist reveals himself. Years of horror, violence, and bloodshed commence. Just as things are at their worse, Jesus returns again and vanguishes the antichrist, binding Satan who will "...no longer able to seduce people." Better late than never, I guess. Instead of returning to heaven where all the Christians are (remember, they all disappeared years earlier), Jesus sets himself up as the "iron scepter" wielding, supreme dictator of a theocratic new world order, ruling over all of the atheists, agnostics, Muslims, Wiccans, Hindus, Buddists, the followers of every other religion, and even the Jews for the next ten centuries. Thus, everyone becomes a Christian and no one has free will (with Satan gone, there's no choice.) So, anyone fortunate enough to survive the wholesale slaughter of armageddon can look forward to enslavement. Wow. I just love a happy ending.
