I learn something new here nearly every day, mneme.  Last year we had a frozen dove under our car.  It had snuggled under the engine bay to try to keep warm, but the cold was too much for it.  Also I had a mouse nest in my trunk last year as they snuggled in.  In winter we are reminded to knock on the car hood before starting up, to frighten any birds that are sheltering there - it saves shredded sparrow in the engine bay.

It's way too cold for me as well, sam444.  I've only ever been on ice skates once, in Aviemore in Scotland when I was on vacation - it's sore on the butt.

It sounds very cold up there
but I love the way this is so full of those 'well I never knew that' moments - I never realised birds could freeze to death that way, or that going out to the car would numb your hands and feet in moments. Nice, mac.

Way too cold for me! So picturesque in your description! I love hockey on the frozen pond! sam

ginnieb
Hi ginnieb.  Good to hear from you.  Canada is an awesome country - every day I say 'Wow!' at some time or another and finish by saying, "God I'm so lucky."

TAPS
If I were you TAPS, I'd stay indoors and imagine what it looks like.

Pat-B
Pat, today was long johns and wool vest day, and apparently it's supposed to be like this for the next 5 days.  The one great thing about it is that our baby sitting was canceled because of the cold.  Heady stuff having time to ourselves.

This makes me wonder what our river is doing.  I haven't been down to the riverside since the real cold set in.  Brrrrr

It's colder here in Mundane than it's been in 10 years, but my pond
has been frozen over the better part of 2 weeks... No steam, no thrashing floes, etc., but I'll bet there's similar activity on the Mississippi a few miles from here. Too cold to get out and see for myself. We'll be having chill factors of minus 10 F or so. Wool socks weather.
