Hackthorne19 - Re: Interesting thoughts
First off welcome to Blogit . . . I always wondered about the Moses and the ten commandments story as well. What raised an eyebrow with me was the fact he was supposedly 80 years old when he climbed that mountain. That might explain why he dropped one of the tablets, the old geezer must have been pooped from the climb. Mind you, it begs the question of what was on the tablet he dropped and broke? Was it supposed to be 15 commandments instead?

Interesting thoughts
I actually agree with you in most of what you have said. I don't think there is a real Satan, per say, I think it's the bad things that happen in your life, that society claims is "Satan's work" or "The work of Satan". I'm not a non-believer, nor am I a believer, kind of on the fence, so to speak. As for Moses parting the Red Sea, I pretty sure he didn't and actually swam across, with about forty miles of rope. Once on the other side, he tied it to a tree, yanked on it a couple of times, and the masses started swimming across. It took the better part of a year to get everyone across. Then Moses climbed a mountain and God spoke to him through a burning bush. God said unto Moses, "I have some commandments for you." Moses, was tired, after climbing for three days up a frigging mountain and wasn't in the mood for the almighty said, "What? Commandments? Oh, shit! Jeez, OK, well how much are they?" God answered, "They are free, why?" Moses responded with, "Great! I'll take ten!" It is quite possible, the Bible was or is, just a story that was written to offer reasons for happenings on the earth. Your thoughs?

TexasGem - what the hell did you expect?

I would think that anyone reading both your comment and my response to it would view your comment as far more insulting. Yet after casting the first stone and receiving a response you did not like, you now want to play the wounded party?  I would recommend that you do not read this blog, you apparently do not grasp the reality that not everyone in this world is willing to support your religious viewpoint.

Re: TexasGem - Re: Hey Gome
Well, Mr. Gome, thanks for the kick in the teeth as you always apply to anyone who does not believe like you. I thought you said that Christians are the ones that do that. I am confused but so that you won't have to deal with my low intelligence, I won't visit your site anymore. How's that Sir? You have a Wonderful Wednesday! I'll continue to pray for you.  Good day!

Soul_Builder101 - is that another example of circular logic?

TexasGem - Re: Hey Gome

Thanx for the laugh provided by your rather amazing comment. For the record, I have never once suggested a lack of intelligence as a sweeping generalization for those who believe in God. You will not find anything remotely implying that sentiment ever expressed in this blog.

On the other hand, there have been some occassions where I have questioned the intelligence of a few individuals that have come to this blog. But of course after reading your well thought out and very articulate comment . . .

Talion_ - utilizing a concept as an explanation is one thing, especially

after generations of social conditioning to think in these terms.

But to actually see the concept manifest itself is an entirely different matter. That requires a number of elements to be present which may include; facilitation and re-affirmation by others, as well as an inherent desire for it to be true.

A concept used to explain the eternal struggle between good and evil, once personified, can be a built in excuse for some.

ginnieb - ultimately that is the core of the issue
Many of these types of stories are constructs "to help people think and understand" as you say. The problem lies in the unwillingness of some to abandon that which discovery and new knowledge has rendered redundant.

Hey Gome
If things that are seen with the natural eyes are the only things that are for certain, I will ask you some questions to go along with your theory since you know more than anyone else does. Every believer in God is a dimwit and we are all wet on the head and wrong as we can be. WOW! Since there is no God, would you consider being a god? You must pass a test though before you can be duly authorized to be a god. Gome, do you have a brain? If so, have you ever seen your brain? Have you ever felt your brain? I hope your answer is yes because if it is "no" than according to your expert knowledge of God, Satan and I suppose every other subject, you have no brain. Only what is visible and can be touched is real, right? Thanks Gome for all your knowledge and the ability to condemn everyone that doesn't share your ideologies. We are not gods, only Gomedome qualifies for this position.

Those who look for Satan will ultimately find him, whether it's in the atrocities of a cruel dictator, the eyes of of a child molester, or for some, the words of an atheist/non-believer. It's an easy way of explaining what to some are the most reprehensible things that defy explanation.

ain't no satan
just a myth concocted to explain "evil"

as if humans weren't capable of "evil" by themselves.

"The Devil made me do it!"

The world in all its wisdom is full of stories...
....to help people think and understand.  It's the literal belief in all 'stories' that cause the ruckus!
