Comments on Obama as Lincoln? Careful what you ask for!

I, on the other hand, feel like my young friend

who said, the day after election day, "I got patriotism, like a birthday present!"

A great part of the mystique of America has always been its ideals, including the ideal of standing for ideals.  I can't recall a time since the early 1960s that I felt America was not sliding backwards, substituting bluster for shine, profit-making for the promise of opportunity, greed and selfishness for patriotism and pioneer spirit. Until now.

I have loved America, but sadly, with disappointment in most of those who defined this nation to the world, as well as within our own borders.  I never denied being American when I was traveling elsewhere--some do, sewing Canadian flags, for instance, on their packs--but I did not advertise it, either.

This new presidency has yet to prove itself, to show its effectiveness.  It will have its fights and losses, and considerable inertia to push against.  But suddenly, ideals are alive again, and rather than hunker down under my desk, as taught in the 60s, I am ready to get up and help push.  If I am, then so are a lot of people like me--I'm nothing unique in this country!

Re: Obama's innaugaration will...
Frankly.....I think it's an insult to Lincoln.........TG, just the rental on the 5000 portapotties will help......or will that be considered just a drop in the bucket

Obama's innaugaration will...
help jump start D.C.'s economy with a budget of $15 million PLUS! I'm sorry but I have said from the getgo that I have a difficult time placing Obama in the same vein as Lincoln. From where I stand there is a very large gap & Obama will prove that he does not deserve that distinction.  * Your blog is very well-written and I respect your hopes for better days ahead. I am struggling to fan the flames of hope and expect too much.  Have a great day!

The thing that’ll differ for President Obama gives him ideals to work with rather than wartime goods. So it goes. BCA, Bill*s Cave
