Re: What is in a name?

Northsage 45 Guy,

No, not offended, wierded out maybe, but not offended.  I won't tell you the only nickname that I despise, so anything else is fine. Most call me benzi, but, whatever.

My name in real life now is Abuelita and my newest grandchildren can only say ITA, eeeeta, so, like I said, anything is really fine.

Some people around here hate to have you shorten their names without permission or changed to something that they despise like the member, Spitfire, so do tread softly through these woods until you get the true lay of the land....

What is in a name?

I fear that I may have offended you, by taking the liberty of calling you by my self-given nickname, "Bennie" without asking your permission, first. If this is the case, I plead ignorance of cultural nicety of behavior, and I hope that you will forgive my impudence. I have been told, (and told, and told!) that on rare occasions, I can be an insensitive blockhead. I apologize.

I also call my dog, "Baby" but his full name is "Tarbaby." I hadn't considered any possible racial connotations, until after his name was well-set. I am not, and do not think like a racist, and had named him that name, because he gets every stick, leaf, and burr that he walks within ten feet of, stuck to his velcro-covered coat. Shortening his name a bit, satisfied everyone including Baby, and ensured that nobody would jump to any wrong conclusions about us. My previous dog, also small, was a Papillon, named "Wolf." Her entire name was really, "Wolfbait" but we never told her that.

So you see, I only play around, giving people strange new names, if I am very fond of them. Oh NO! I hope that I didn't just insult you by mentioning you in the same sentence with..............Like I have often heard, I am SUCH a Blockhead!

     Guy
