Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I went to Business
school like my grandfather wanted me to?  Maybe I would better off?

All I wanted in high school was to get a job and tell the

DCFS caseworker to kiss my ass. Mom had to accept welfare after dad split, we lived in a village where there were no jobs, and the state was broke. They said we needed $160 a month to survive, but they could only give Mom $80 a month for a family of four. This was in 1953.

Mrs. Newton wanted me to apply for a teaching scholarship, but I didn't even consider it. Now I realize the family would have made it anyway, and I should have gone for the scholarship. There were more opportunities for writers in the '50s. But then I wouldn't have the experiences I had, or the children I have. I sometimes wonder what if? But I wouldn't change it.

I wanted to be a vet... but I hate chemistry... simply refused to take it
I love where I ended up though... life works that way as long as one is living it

Pity life doesn't let us have everything we want huh...
Pretty sure many have thought the same as yourself about their "alternate universe" selves...but most of our choices eventually churn out the results we're most comfortable with don't they? If it takes too much effort to blast past rocks blocking a road, we take an easier one. Not many have the chance, guts or well, motivation to pursue a harder path, or a path less walked, forcing you to gamble.

I'm thankful for the path I've chosen, or one that has been opened up to me. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't be who I am now...and I could do loads worse:) It's not the best attitude to have for advancing yourself but it's by far a more optimistic viewpoint. Sometimes it really isn't worth wasting life doubting yourself probably...

Have a great year ahead of you Ariala! Your writing is really soothing to read:)
