Beale Street on New Year's Eve is packed. Nothing like Bourbon Street during a pre-Katrina Mardis Gras (I've been to six of those), but packed none the less.
Spicy food, a margarita or two, and good friends, that's all the celebrating anyone really needs.

You won't find much jazz on Beale Street. A little blues maybe, but that may be fading fast. The area is so touristy now, it's hard to find anything authenic.

TAPS.
Yes, I'm happy with the changes, but a tiny part of me still yearns for the "old days." I guess I'll never be completely satisfied.

When I originally joined Blogit in March of 2004, Queen V read every post and all the comments. However, once she realized this wasn't some online meatmarket filled with people trolling for dates, she quickly lost interest. This simply isn't her thing.

If I made New Year's resolutions, one would be to do less nothing and more something. Fortunately for me (and Queen V's dismay), I don't make New Year's resolutions.

Don't get me wrong. Had my brother suggested something other than a quiet evening at home, I would've jumped at the chance.

Yes, nothing is something. We played PIT and Uno Flash, had snack and put on crazy plastic hats and went wild with noisemakers to welcome in the new year. We celebrated the new year with New York at 11 our time and were in bed by 11:30. A perfect eve for me

Perspective
Your story here puts things into perspective. Life does change. I walked along Beale Street one evening, and loved it, but I doubt I would ever have gone there for New Year's Eve. Well, okay, I've never lived anywhere near Memphis. But come Monday, I'm out for a raucous night with my fellow adjunct teachers at a local Mexican Restaurant from 7-9 pm. That's all the party I can handle. Happy New Year!

Sounds like a perfect celebration to me.
I'm putting Beale Street on my "to do" list for '09. I dearly love jazz, and Memphis is a shining jewel on the music horizon to me. Once heard the old guys of Preservation Hall play a concert at the Mississippi River Festival at the SIU campus here in Illinois, and visited the Hall in New Orleans once. Thanks for the reminder. And while I'm thinking about it, I'm putting on a CD right now. Have a great day, Talion.

Things always change. It is good that your "things" changed in such a nice way, and that you are happy with the changes.

What a difference a loving wife and a decade of time makes. I do nothing most of the time. I do nothing one day and stack it the next. ha! Have a very Happy New Year!!!

Seems most folks, except my neighbor's who had a wild party, stayed home.
