i'm in the same boat; my father was, to say it the nicest way. unintelligent. Also uncaring and good with the beatings. My Mother was often hysterical. i'm a self-made man;i made this mess.

I have come to that realization too

I too, have come to realize that in many ways, I was "raised by wolves". We had everything we needed but no instruction and little modeling. I am learning as an adult what many learned years ago as children. All the best in the new year.

Its amazing how much our childhoods affect everything we do in life. I planed that when i had kids i wanted to protect them and teach them the way i was never, now i have a child i realise what a hard job it is and that my parents were only human too.

Of course, it's so obvious that you can only learn what you are taught.  Not everything can be learned from a book or  in school.  The task now is to learn those things, so here is a rose  and I am smiling on you!

I think probably we all have some negative messages running through our minds – negative opinions of ourselves that we picked up along the way be it from our childhood or even some adult relationships.  Erasing those “tapes” is not easy but most certainly possible.  And it sounds like you’re up for the journey!
