A rope and a tree can't cost that much. So I stand with Iran? Then that should make you happy, right? Aren't you progressive liberal thinkers supporting the enemy? I can never understand what you stand for, I guess it is contradiction.

Re: Re: Posted by RedStatesMan
An execution costs more than a life sentence.

But at least you are showing that you stand with such progressive states as Iran.  And that's my point.

Re:

I can not do justice to this sizzling comment by mordent. However, my two cents on this take on the death penalty would be exactly as mordent stated. If I was in charge, which I know that thought makes xeno quiver in his shoes, in one week I would have saved the tax payers enough money in eliminating prisons and their costs to get us completely out of the bad economy, decreasing the crime rate to almost nothing by just simply executing all on death row. As mordent said since it is a 'free choice' to use abortion then why not give society a 'free choice' to execute criminals?

Great idea mordent!

Here's another thought..xeno

Why not just kill em' fast and cheap the way other countries do? Forget the revenge thing and just save the tax-payers and jail space. Reduce the population as well.

Have you ever thought you might be sparing the prisoner a miserable life behind bars. You'd be doing him a favor.

And I told you unless you get em when they're young don't bother trying to rehabilitate. They'll keep offending the more you let them free.

Honestly if you don't have a problem killing babies (do u?), you shouldn't have a problem killing criminals. Isn't that logical?

Re: Re: Re:

Let me get this straight, you are quoting bible verses? Obviously you believe in this bible verse thus...

WOW! That statement says a lot for you! That is great to hear! True, vengeance is of the Lord's to take. More on this later. Somewhere in the 60's the death penalty was struck down, at that time there were somewhere between 5500 to 6000 murders in the nation per year. When the death penalty was brought back the murder rate had increased to around 15,000 to 16,000 per year prior to this reinstating of the penalty. What does that tell us? Now back to the bible verse. You stated recently that you believe in a particular religion or belief that is not what Christians believe in. You stated that God did not exist many times in various ways. So if you believe this then why quote a bible verse or even mention the Lord's name? So here is a bible verse to ponder:

Ezekiel 13:19 And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies?

Furthermore, I hear and see so much about every type of belief on earth from Festivus to Christianity and since you are quoting the Bible then concerning this aprticular observation I would quote the following from Ezekiel:

1Then the word of the LORD came to me saying,

2"Son of man, prophesy against the (A)prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy from their own inspiration, '(B)Listen to the word of the LORD!

3'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Woe to the (C)foolish prophets who are following their own spirit and have (D)seen nothing.

Re: Re:
what did i say about Texas?  more people on death row now than a decade ago?  people are stillkilling.

let's quote a bible verse:  "'Vengeance is mint,' saith the Lord, 'I will repay.'"

The death penalty more than anything is an arm of vengeance.  People get "closure" when the killer of a loved one is executed.  If this isn't a feeling of revenge and getting back at the individual, I don't know what is.

And they get "closure" sometimes when an innocent man is executed.  More to come.

Re:

Mordent, you are asking a liberal how he would feel if his son was murdered and the murderer would get 5 years in prison? If a liberal was confronted by a murderer and was sure that this was his last moment on earth he would think that it was society's fault and therefore his fault that the murderer had comes to this point in life. Then after asking to talk about this would then be murdered without defending himself.

He states that there are a huge number on death row in Texas. That tells me that we are not using it enough. That is the reason why it seems to not work here in the U.S.. Here are some facts that xeno left out in the post:

Countries with the Most Confirmed Executions in 2007
1. China (470)
4. Pakistan (135)
2. Iran (317)
5. United States (42)
3. Saudi Arabia (143)

42? There were 42 executions in this nation in 2007? Heck, we do not have a death penalty! They say the death penalty doesn't work? A mass murderer or a serial killer could kill this many! Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people at Virginia Tech in one afternoon and was just 10 shy of all the executions the U.S. performed in 2007!!!!

THAT IS WHY IT DOESN'T WORK, BECAUSE IT IS NOT USED!!!!!!!!!!!

Aren't those countries where all your buddys come from anwyay? Now if your son was murdered in Norway and got 5 years like a lot of them seem to how would you feel about that?

I've told you a few days ago (your last blog) that our death penalty system is a joke nobody thinks about. I guarantee those same criminals will not be stealing a loaf of bread or smoking pot in any of those highly civilized countries on your list. THe whole criminal justice system here is in-efficient.
