What do you mean "olden days"? I've got my pig's head soaking in the mustard right now.
Just kidding. LOL. My tendencies have moved on down to the smoked butt (ham).
This is a fun post to read.

Very interesting my dear!
Just an aside to the Christmas club savings; here in Cyprus everybody receives what is called a '13th' salary in December. Salaries here are divided by 13 not 12; that way everyone receives this extra money for Christmas; one of the few excellent customs of the island wouldn't you say?? Many blessings and thanks my friend; happy holidays

Hey nita!
great post as always- here's something more for you, from something i read this morning:
1.the carol "long time ago in bethlehem, so the holy Bible says...'' was a carol from west indies, and popularised by two scandanavian singers.
2. the bible supposedly says nothing about Jesus being born on christmas day.
3. the term "christmas" originates from 'cristes masse' and was adopted centuries after christ's birth.
wow, huh? how much there is yet to discover...there is a lot of other shockers too, but that would take a blog in itself :)

I was out shopping today and I agree these are the busiest shopping days. I had no idea that the Christmas savings was more than 100 years old. Too cool on that one. Such great facts surrounding Christmas! Happy holidays to you too! sam

I can remember my Mom putting money away in a "Christmas Club"
year after year for many years. It was a great way to save up money to buy those Christmas presents...
