Go to Separation Of Church and State?Add a commentGo to (No subject)

You are correct - this nation WAS founded by principles from God
1.  Like, some Christians tell us that we have free will.  We can worship or not worship as we please.

However, some Christians seem to want to negate that Free Will by insisting on a Christian Nation where other points of view are either not tolerated and not allowed, or these Christians' ponit of view is favored above all others.

2.  Freedom to worship (or not) as one pleases.  This was the intent of the Founding Fathers.  Even a Baptist minister of the early years opposed the Post Office being closed on Sunday, saying it was a religious expression.  Secular government should not at all dictate religious matters, nor should it appear to be favoring one religion over another.

It is the reason behind that "wall of separation between church and state", as Jefferson puts it, that should put the issue in perspective.  In Europe, the history of a State Church and its repression of divergent forms of religion and persecution of dissenters pressed on their minds, formed their views.

They did not want their new country to follow that path; instead, they wanted an irreligious government, one where people understood that all religions, all modes of worship (or non-worship) were welcome.  They saw the various ranges of beliefs; indeed, they had those varieties in their midst.

They must have concluded, as many people today have, that government should distance itself from religion, except to protect it.  Government should be neutral in this regard.

We are not a 100% Christian nation.  That is obvious.  about 15% of our people are non-religious, even.  Christians make up about 75% of the populace.

As I have said a few times, to follow your (and that of many Christians) chain of reasoning, that the predominant religion should prevail, then we shouild end up with the predominant Christian Denomination to prevail.

The other 70% of Christians wouldn't want that, I would think.

RSM, you really just don't get it
You keep showing that you have no grasp of how true freedom needs to work.

One state governor who shows she very much  understands religious freedom has nothing to do wit how Bush and crew got the (Un)Patriotic act passed and took away freedoms as part of a game to pretend that makes us safer.

I will feel much better about freedom in this country in January, after we are truly done with the Bush era and can start to fix all the great mistakes that were made over these last eight years.

Of course we still see that there are too many out there who wish to do all they can to deny freedom to anyone who is not of their views, as seen with the idiocy that is Prop 8.

Re: RSM, I agree with Kooka.

Kooka just commented on this blog and was overjoyed about the freedom of religion. Seems like you are doing just fine under Bush.

Glad you understood that I am not a supporter of the KKK. However, it is a valid argument. If you give to one then you give to all is what I hear from liberals and atheist so... understand the stupidity of this. This nation was founded on principles from God. You can try to deny that but your argument is a moot point.

RSM, I agree with Kooka.
And also, why would we celebrate a KKK holiday? Yes, it is part of history (unfortunately) but it also promotes HATE. I did "get your message" but it is a moot point. Additionally, it is not the libs or dems that are distroying our country. Bush did that quite well on his own the past 8 years.

RSM you do hate religious freedom don't you
The reason the atheists were able to do this was because a Christian group sued to get their Manger Scene at the capital, after being offended a few years ago by seeing a Menorah on display at the capital.

It all has to do with religious freedom you see.  if one group is going to be allowed to display a religious based set up, then you have to let other groups do the same.  Otherwise there is no freedom there.  Sorry, but in all cases like these freedom has to be the most important factor in all such things.
