you are putting words in people's mouths and thoughts in their heads that certainly are not there.

9/11 should have been prevented -- it was inattention to certain aspects of world affairs that brought it about.

Problem is, we still didn't solve the problem nor did we eliminate the threat with our "shock and awe" tactics.  The Taliban et al scattered before our invasion and Al Qaeda retreated to safer ground.  All we did was to put our troops in harm's way.

That being said, we should have attempted to work out a more effective military action.  We used WWII tactics in the 21st Century.

Some action should be taken in situations like this, military being the last action, and only if necessary.

I need to post at some time about this.  I don't think any liberal philosophy includes "lay down and die".

However, the U.S. has engaged in too little dialogue around the world -- it's usually a monologue, one-way talk and action.

Spineless! I guess after 9/11 we should have done nothing at all. Do you really honestly think that if we had done nothing that they would not have continued? Where have you been? Hell, man, you are older than I.  Look at history! Thank God above you were not president after Pearl Harbor!!!

As I have said, the alternative you suggest would put into a constant state of war for centuries if carried out in the manner you and Bush and many of the militarists suggest.

This is not your daddy's war.  We have become the enemy to tens of millions of people spread across two continents and dozens of countries.  If the U.S. continues its present policies, constant incidents such as this should be expected, small, scattered.  To respond as we responded in Afghanistan and Iraq will not end it.

Re: Re: Posted by mordent

Ah, yes, let's all do what xeno and other liberals suggest. Just sit back and wait for a chance to talk to the terrorists and listen to them. Let's do nothing. Maybe Obama can break in and have dialogue with these killers. Maybe he can have an unconditional meeting with them. Maybe President Bush needs to stand by or maybe just let it go. Above all if something was to happen in this nation during the final days of Bush's administration maybe he should just do nothing as well. Maybe he should talk with the murderers, listen to them, try to understand what they are upset about, see what their demands are and be nice to the terrorists.

Above all Bush should not try to find out who did this and try to bring them to justice but rather seek to understand them better. Seek to understand why they want to kill everyone. Maybe he should do like Carter did with the hostages in Iran back then which was nothing. Maybe we should do nothing at all and sit back waiting to be attacked.

Ah, yes I understand! Just sit back and do nothing but talk to killers.

You people are pathetic! Someone could break in your house to murder you and you would want to have dialogue with them. Where do you come from? What is your damn mental problem?

Look out your buddy dubya might pull that ole "I've gotta stay in office and cause another war" deal.

Or maybe he'll see this as an opportunity to show how many wars he can fight at once.
