They Need a New Plan!
You are exactly correct.  They need to find a new way to do what they

need to do.  Taxpayers should not do it.

Taps
Greed – it’s everywhere; from the big wigs of large corporations to the birdies in your yard.  Sad, isn't it?

I'm not sure about the cracked corn and spam, but I'm thinking of writing a cookbook: 101 ways to cook ramen noodles!

TAPS

There's a feeding frenzy in my backyard as well - birds are now even entering the feeder that looks like a bird cage, and that I wrote about disparagingly a couple of years ago...

As to the flying piggies from Detroit, it may well have made sense to use their corporate birds, if one just considers the logistics. But sometimes appearances are more important - and boy, is this ever one of those times...

One more thing - I hope they get what they went for. Not for their sake, but for that of millions of people whose lives will be badly affected if they don't! And there ought to be many strings attached, of course...

TAPS......
All Washington DC  represents "Animal Farm" to me....

As to your seed situation....do you have a "Tractor Supply CO" in your area....or any farm store.......Cracked corn is much "cheeper"....

Besides......if we have to switch to beans, rice and spam..the little birdies may as well do the same.....

Taps, good analogy...you might try switching to plain millet...it might be
cheaper for the birds?  I dunno for sure.

Excellent post. There is no excuse for those and other top executives who are pigging their companies into the ground to be paid so much money. Actually the birds are taking only what they need, nobody else is feeding them but you now. The CEOs are taking all they can from anyone they can. This new direction is spiraling far too fast.

The analogy is interesting. Sooner or later, bailouts will be a dirty word and a cliche.

When the revolution comes, your birds will be safe, but the CEOs will be the first to go . . .

I fear that the dark side birds are beating up on the good bird. Hell, fasting is good anyway! lol

Wonderfully said Taps,  loved the comparison...so appropiate...

Great analogy, Taps.  And I'm with Strat on this one.  The first thing I thought when I read about the private jets was - "why didn't they drive down to DC in their own manufactured cars?"  Much more effective.  They just come off as entitled idiots who have no sympathy for their employees.  Mal

I agree with you: birdfeed is getting expensive (the say up about 20% from last year). But they deserve it, to bring a bit of colour in the dead white season. Hey! there's no birdie in the icons!

Re: If they're doing such a great job and deseve the money,
strat, This cold weather, the birds sure do a great job of entertaining Pitiful.  She won't go out because it's too cold for her so she sits with her nose pressed against the glass in a pouncing position watching them for hours.  Little does she know that I buy much more bird seed than I do cat feed.

We should take a lesson from nature....
...it tells all!  Great post!

If they're doing such a great job and deseve the money,
they should prove it by driving one of those pieces of crap they make these days -- in Tijuana, not Detroit, f course -- to Washington -- maybe even carpooling. Bastards.

The birds, of course, deserve all the suiet they can get...

Good one!  Last night I heard a passionate defense of the guys using their jets and the need for the bailout....I didn't agree but different perspectives are always interesting...it's not an easy one to swallow any way we go.  I imagine you do have more birds.....less people are probably budgeting for birdseed so the word is out on you....my mother is noticing the same thing.  Fewer people are buying cars, too.....and the big birds are flocking to the biggest feeder in town......problem is, the seed is gonna run out.

Shame on them!

the CEOs, that is...

Sounds like the birds would welcome a second feeding station.

As for the automakers, I've got mixed emotions...
I've always felt the CEO piggies were overfed and greedy, blaming the production crew for their high union wages and benefits for pricing American cars out of the market while they piled up millions and -- like you said -- each flew on their own private jet to beg for more corporate welfare.  I hate to think of 2.5 million auto workers unemployed. But cheez whiz!
