As so often, and in so many ways, Churchill was right. But there's one important difference between his time and ours: in 1914 the populations of the all the major European powers went to war enthusiastically - they welcomed was expected to be a brief and 'glorious' adventure. By the time reality had asserted itself, it was too late...And WWII? Really a continuation of #I; though even among the Germans, who started it, there was no entusiasm for it...
All that doesn't mean we shall no longer have conflicts, as is obvious...
