Oh, I am doing far, far better than you in terms of receiving from the Bible.

RITE2SPIN - somehow your inability to answer a few simple questions is now

about me?

The question still remains: How is one part of the old testament relevent when by your own admission, other parts of it are not?

You would think that if someone were using segments plucked from amongst no longer applicable passages that they would have asked themselves this very question from the outset.

you are the master at not giveing a straight answer! you have a real gift at making things into something they are not. THE END

RITE2SPIN - you never disappoint, that is if someone has come to expect

everything but a straight answer.

I can try it again if you want. Why is slavery dismissed as being from a time when it was more accepted? Slavery is illegal now, what gives man the right to change the so called word of God? Which of course leads to the biggie;

If portions of that text are rendered as no longer relevent, as has happened to the slavery references . . . why is the rest of it still valid?

The problem with any answer you give is that it will inevitably defeat all arguments attempting to uphold the validity of the rest of the Old Testament.

Gome
times were different in those day's as you your self have often stated, slavery was more excepted. It also tells you in the old testament how to treat your slaves. are you not allready a slave to your own worldly possesion, if you say no, then you are foolish. we are all slaves in one form or another, as for me for me being your slave you don't have enough of these $ in your pocket, if you want your snow sheveled I suggest you reach into your pocket and get some of what we are all slave to, the allmighty dollar. Say your not!

RITE2SPIN - do you condone slavery?

As a matter of fact if you want to insist that the old testament is relevent and especially if you want to use Leviticus as a means of justifying your prejudices, I would like to purchase you as a slave. I'm not sure what your skills are but there is a lot of snow to shovel up here in Canada, that would keep you busy for most of the year. . . . what, you're not following me?

Leviticus 25:44-46
44 And as for thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, whom thou shalt have; of the nations that are round about you, of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids.

45 Moreover of the children of the strangers that sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they have begotten in your land: and they shall be your possession.

46 And ye shall make them an inheritance for your children after you, to hold for a possession; of them shall ye take your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel ye shall not rule, one over another, with rigor.

Who do I see about purchasing you?

Re: Posted by RITE2SPIN
The entire Christian Church, almost from the outset, has said that the Old Testament does not apply to Christians.

Otherwise, you would be observing Jewish laws of clean and unclean meat and observing Passover and Yom Kipper.  That's all in Leviticus.

There is, according the the bulk of Christianity, the Old Testament, for the Jews, and the New Testament, for Christians -- the Old Testament (Covenant) is replaced by the New.  I've heard this since I was in high school.

Re: Re: One can't help but be saddened by reading such misinformation
correction:  it's the I Cor. verse.

Re: One can't help but be saddened by reading such misinformation
You are correct.  The I Tim verse referred to here, in KJV, it is rendered, "those who abuse themselves with mankind"  And there is no distinction between a man or a woman, so that someone who lets abuse happen, whether man or woman, would fall into this category.

It doesn't at all mention love of any sort whether hetero or homo.  This is inferred by those who read it, and subsequent translators, as you mentioned.

Re: RITE2SPIN on November 13,
Lev 18:22-23 "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination." Lev 20:13 "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death."

This is the Old Testament verse to which I was referring.

You are a Christian.  Leviticus is a Jewish document, as attested to by the numerous commands in it that Christians consider not to pertain to them.

The question is:  If the rest of Leviticus does not pertain to you, then why does this passage?

One can't help but be saddened by reading such misinformation

The vitriol which these barely literate self proclaimed Christians bestow on their fellow citizens from a position of ignorance is particularly pitiful.

The words "homosexual" and "homosexuality" do not appear in the Bible, at least they are absent from the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts. The authors of the Bible did not understand sexual orientation; this concept was only developed in the late 19th century. The writers certainly had little or no comprehension of same sex committed relationships. subsequently, their languages had no words for these concepts. When you see one of these terms in an English translation of the Bible, it is important to dig deeper and find what the original Hebrew or Greek text really means or actually said.

The word "homosexual" first appeared in the New Revised Standard (RSV) Bible in 1946. It is an invention of modern English translation. All references to homosexuality in the bible are actually speaking of practices that no longer exist today in society. Such as gang rape (Sodom and Gomorrah), male on male domination and pagan ritual sex.

Anyone who has heard of the cities of "Sodom and Gommorah" knows that they were notorious hotbeds of homosexuality. Gen 19:5-8 "and they called to Lot and said to him, 'Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may have relations with them.' But Lot went out to them at the doorway, and shut the door behind him, and said, 'Please, my brothers, do not act wickedly.'" The Greek word in the New Testament for homosexuality is literally "a sodomite". Jock is trying to redefine what the term "sodomite" means. (A term that has unchanged in 5000 years, even today- "sodomy") Apart from the fact the city was clearly destroyed by God because of homosexuality in the narrative of Gen 19, even the New Testament clearly states exactly the same thing in Jude 7 "Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example, in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire." Any sinner should always remember that the God who commands us to love our neighbour is the same God who will cast any and all unrepentant sinners into the "eternal fire". Here are more Bible quotes, Lev 18:22-23 "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination." Lev 20:13 "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death." 1 Cor 6:9 "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals" 1 Tim 1:9-10 "realizing the fact that (civil) law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers" Rom 1:26-27 "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error."

If the homosexual community chooses to practice homosexuality in privacy, that is there free choice. But let such persons know for certain that the Christian Bible condemns all such practices and God will judge them unfit for the kingdom of heaven if the continue to practice and openly promote homosexual sex.
