Rules, schmools...
...ShawnMichel had it right.  The rules you mention weren't given to you by God.  They were, if you look closely, given to you by men.  Forget that approach.  God is teaching you as we type and read--the teaching is going on all around us on a real-time, continuous basis.  All we have to do is simply be attuned to it and forget all the crap the rule-makers would have us believe.  I'm not saying rules are bad, just that they should come from the correct source.  Watch your children, they learn 'better' than we conditioned adults do.

God Didn't Make the Rules, WE Did
...and by people who made the rules, not to honor God, but to subjugate men. It's that simple.

Of course Ifyou-please. Why didn't I think of that ?

and further I believe you are so correct in this analogy that I am going to recommend to our Prime Minister ( sort of like a president ) that we just close Canada before it's too late. After all with back bacon as one of our national foods what chance do we have of not eventually, completely, resembling swine ?  Sure glad you pointed this one out to us before it was too late. Phew...I hate to think what could have happened.

I'm drafting my letter to him right now ......he's never answered before.....but maybe this time, cause after all how could he overlook such an important crisis?

No, no, no, there's a much simpler explaination to not eating pork.
Jesus clearly taught an association of himself with his food, as in the last supper.  The bread being his body, etc.   Now, when we think of a pig, we are thinking of a dirty, fat animal with little or no fur.  A ham, etc.  This is not the sort of person Jesus wants us to be.  So, in staying away from the pork, we keep ourselves from becoming "porkers" "hams" "pigs" "gluttons" and all that other stuff pigs are associated with.

I left this statement on Inkling's blog of the same subject.

" Pork is the "meat of choice", accounting for 47 percent of the meat protein consumed in the world "

This is a well researched statement by the US National Pork Producers Council. A statement backed by hard numbers.

There are 2 reasons I chose to comment on this subject when I normally stay away from these type of Biblical interpretation squabbles. First, being from Canada pork is very important to us in that there does not exist a red blooded Canadian that doesn't love back bacon ( some people call it pemeal bacon...foreigners mostly ) it is one of our national foods. Secondly I read the passage provided by Inkling in her posting and I come up with a different interpretation:

The science or lack of same during the day of the writing of this manuscript was not able to determine the cause of bacterial toxicity and only able to observe the effect of that toxicity. These words were just common sense by some wise men...survival tips if you prefer for living in a very hot climate. It's either that or nearly 50% of the world is now damned for breaking this prohibition daily.....if you think it is the latter.....give your heads a shake.
