Xeno-x - as I am sure you are aware, the campaign for Proposition 8 was

funded primarily by those wunnerful Mormons.

If the agenda dealt with any issue other than that which taps into a vein of widespread public bigotry, what do you think the chances would be of that agenda having similar success? Probably slim to none. On any other issue, the Mormons would be told to get stuffed but the non Mormon bible thumpers were able to ignore their own prejudices against Mormons when it appealed to a greater prejudice.  

The real irony of all this is that it may be one of the few times we will ever see such co-operation between Christian sects. In reading the grounds for this Proposition and what it is premised upon, it is clear that it is nothing more than a baseless action utilizing imaginary slippery slope arguments. It will eventually be defeated and we can only hope that the religious amongst us get the message that they have no right to insist that others live in accordance with their beliefs.
