In my Father's HOUSE are many MANSIONS

"House":

G3614 oikia oi-kē'-ä house, at home, household, from the house

wouldn't it be better rendered, "household"?

we saw about "mansions" below --here's more

G3438

So why don't we render this verse as really saying, "There is much room in my Father's household."

Suddenly we don't have a physical place.

Jhn 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, [there] ye may be also.
Jesus says that he will come again -- doesn't say he will leave or go anywhere else.

Well, if a person takes a few verses here and there, they would get that

idea, but Jesus, prior to His ascension made it very clear that where He was going, we would also go and He was preparing a place for us...He said He would return to take us there.  My understanding is that for 1,000 years we will be in Heaven, and after that, the New Jerusalem will descend onto THIS earth and eternity will be lived out here.

This study "Heaven is Real" will give you all the verses you're after.

George Carlin's Theory
George Carlin once stated that when we die our souls go to a garage in Chicago.

Being nature-centered, I find it hard to believe in either a heaven or a hell as places.  If there be such things, they be of our own minds; we create our own spiritual "places" in our souls to punish or to reward what we did while alive.
