Re: Setting such strict dress codes, getting students to comply
Very much so.  Mormons are rather compliant people, on the whole.  The do what they're told.

Setting such strict dress codes, getting students to comply
is a form of training. Once you learn compliance to dress codes and appearance codes -- the clean cut look, for instance -- it's easier to coerce you into obedience to other rules. It's a control issue.

Making a difference
is a fine ambition which so few achieve; keep on protesting

Re: ravenmarie
Yes, BYU has the right to enforce any rules, and the students must follow them, and I agree that periods of enforced discipline can be good for us.  But it was still annoying.

As I am so often, I'm conflicted.  Going to BYU is a choice and by making that choice, you also choose to follow their rules,  ( even though foolish I agree ).  I also am thinking that for a few years in our lives it doesn't hurt us to learn some self discipline even f it is force on us by someone other then ourselves   There is a great lack of it any more at work, marriage etc. I am glad that we can express our opinions here.  In other countries that is not a possibility.  So keep writing and most of all thinking.  And keep letting people know what you are thinking.
