Hey dad, this sort of sounds like a contradiction to me:

"What we need is a restructuring of the financial system to benefit more people more equally, where people feel like they are contributing to their own benefit instead of slaving for another's."  On the one hand you want people to benefit equally, but not everyone works hard so the person who does work hard ends up slaving it to benefit the one who doesn't.

Unfortunately, most societies operating under socialism don't prosper, but rather experience economic paralysis.  In New Intellectual, Rand put it this way, "Socialism is the doctrine that man has no right to exists for his own sake, that his life and his work do not belong to him, but belong to society, that the only justification of his existence is his service to society, and that society may dispose of him in any way it pleases for the sake of whatever it deems to be its own tribal, collective good."

Goebbels puts it this way, "To be a socialist is to submit the I to the thou; socialism is sacrificing the individual to the whole."  Man, I wish the movie Atlas Shrugged would come out!

"There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end: communism proposes to enslave men by force, socialism - by vote. It is merely the difference between murder and suicide." Ayn Rand

If ,and it isn't, this is true then why have so many people from all over the world have risked their lives to come here to America for over so many decades?

Xeno: Good post. Some mixture of this system and capitalism will do us good. Not many people know what Socialism means. They equate it with Communism. We need more readers who are more informed; who don't just drink at the trough of the self serving propagandists.
