Re: Criteria for witches
I like that story.  It could be useful in a lot of situations.

Re: She wasn't even a witch
Are you sure about that?  Did she ever make odd predictions that just sort of came true?

I have noticed all the supernatural movies and shows (I also started watching Fringe), and I've wondered what inspired them.  It's that Chinese curse again.  We live in Interesting Times.

Criteria for witches
was so flimsy (looking to the ground when asked if you were guilty, mere suspicion being enough in some cases etc) that you could use the excuse to go on a murdering spree if so inclined.  This reminds me of terrorist interrogations in old RSA and the following joke:

The regular army and the security police got tasked to find a crocodile.  The army guys went out on a river and after much effort came back with a crocodile.  The security police looked around, saw a lizard, caught it and beat it with a stick until it confessed to be a crocodile.

Have you noticed an increase in supernatural and conspiracy-theory shows on TV lately?  Not that I watch them (OK - Lost, I have to admit.  And now, sometime, Fringe), but this seems to occur in uncertain times.  You have a point there.  By the way, my Aunt was petrified of Halloween her whole life.  Her daughter told me that she'd get downright catatonic each oct. 31st.  And that's the day she died.  Pretty weird, right?  She wasn't even a witch.

Re:
I'm afraid you're right about that.  As far as I'm concerned, animals are people, too.  You're welcome to my cave any time you need protection.  (Okay, I live in a house.  It's my mother-in-law that lives in the basement, which sometimes resembles a cave.)

Thanks for stopping by.

Re: I had a book like that recently. Raunchier title. I gave it to someone
Sounds like a fun book.  I'll have to look for that one in my local library.

Re: A more recent incident of this occurred in the 1950’s
Thanks.  Yes, McCarthy seems like a witch hunter to me, too.  So, what's in store for us now, what with the economic downturn?  Terrorist hunts?  Socialist hunts?

Because of my strong connection and love of animals, some of the neighborhood children  call me a witch.  The sad part is a couple of hundred years ago that could have gotten me killed.

I had a book like that recently. Raunchier title. I gave it to someone
but can't remember who at the moment. It was a directory of "A**holes, scumbags and jerks" complete with bios on why each was qualified to be on the list. Folks like Saddam Hussein, Donald Trump, George Bush, all kinds of thieves and scoundrels -- the joke wore off and I lost interest a quarter of the way through.

A more recent incident of this occurred in the 1950’s
when Senator Joe McCarthy conducted his hunt for communists.  Very entertaining post.
